Alex Thomas & Friends Virtual Caricature Drawing Workshop

Learn to draw fun caricatures of some of your favorite characters led by a puppet from the Alex Thomas & Friends team! Whether you are just beginning or more advanced, this workshop will teach you the tips, tricks, and techniques!

Disguise a Gingerbread Man: Book Character Contest

Run, run as fast as you can! Kids ages 3-10 are invited to pick up a gingerbread man at any JDL branch starting Nov. 16 to decorate as a book character. Return your gingerbread man to your library branch by Dec. 7 with your name and age on the back.

Can’t make it into the library? Gingerbread man templates and instructions can also be downloaded and printed off at home! Click here for template. Send a photo of the competed masterpiece along with the child’s name, age, the book character, and home branch to marketing@myjdl.com by December 7.

Photos of the entries will be shared on our Facebook page starting Dec. 14 where you can at vote for your favorite one! Voting ends Dec. 19. The gingerbread man with the most votes in 3 age categories will be awarded a prize!

Local Author Discussion with Patrice Johnson

Join us for an evening conversation with local Jackson author Patrice Johnson, winner of the 2018 National Indie Excellence Award for her debut non-fiction work, The Fall and Rise of Tyler Johnson. This narrative weaves a powerful account of Johnson as a fugitive of the U.S. government for suspected environmental terrorism.

Princess Storytime Adventure

Dreams really do come true at this storytime with Princess Savannah! Put on your princess dress, wear a crown and bring your imagination as you listen to fun stories, sing songs, and dance along.

Intended for preschool-8 years. This program will be available on our Facebook page and our YouTube Channel.

Center Stage Jackson will be performing an Old Time Radio Show as a Readers Theatre Performance!

It’s Not Magic, It’s Magnets!

Join us for a fun STEM activity about magnets! Project kits will be available at all JDL branches beginning Monday, November 23, including a how-to guide with instructions, extra project ideas, and fun facts!

Imagination Required! Enter the world of “Little People”; solve mysteries, and find gold in a presentation that will entertain the entire family! Join Storyteller Jen Strauss for a program filled with magic, music, fairy dust and story!

Beautifully Wrapped

All across the globe, the language of dress is spoken. Sometimes quietly, sometimes loud, sometimes understood, sometimes feared…our chosen ways of adornment speak volumes. Beautifully Wrapped seeks to explore our natural curiosity of others, in ways that are engaging, open and honest so that we may get to know a bit more of humanity.

In this virtual program, anthropologist Zarinah El-Amin Naeem shares the history and culture of headwrapping.
