Summer Discover Finale Festival

Join us at Horace Blackman Park in downtown Jackson for a party in the park to celebrate the end of Summer Discover!

From 11 AM-2 PM, we’ll have live music and yard games, including a bounce house! Then, you can enjoy a free showing of Harold and the Purple Crayon at 2:30 PM the Michigan Theatre.

Read with a Dog

What better way to achieve your reading goal this summer than to read with a dog! Join us at the Jackson County Animal Shelter to show some love to a dog in need by reading them a story.

All ages are welcome, however younger children must be accompanied by an adult.

Birds of Prey: A Bird’s Eye View

Join us to discover birds of prey, including hawks, owls and falcons from the Outdoor Discovery Center! You’ll get to see the birds up close and learn about their habitat, as well as explore hands-on artifacts including skulls, feathers, pelts, and talons.

What’s is like working at a National Park as a Park Ranger? How does someone become a Park Ranger? These questions and more will be answered by JDL’s own Bambi Skrzynski, former National Parks Ranger.

Join a Dahlem Center Naturalist Educator to explore how amazing one of our most beloved insects truly is; the beautiful, magical Monarch Butterfly!

You’ll learn all about these tiny creatures’ life cycle, their treacherous 3,000 mile migration, and actions we can take to help them survive many threats that are continuing to lower their population to critical levels.
