Redistricting in Michigan: The MICRC & Communities of Interest

The League of Women Voters of Jackson Area is holding a townhall event to educate voters on the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission (MICRC) process in drawing new legislative and congressional maps. MICRC was created as a result of Michigan adopting proposal 18-2 in 2018.

Discussions will include redistricting in Michigan, the commission, and opportunities for the public including communities of interest to provide input to the commission before it draws the maps.

The virtual townhall will take place via Zoom, and registration is required. To register, click here.

Participating in this townhall gives you the chance to have your voice heard at the MICRC public hearing on May 11 at the Commonwealth Center at 6 PM.

JXN Community Forum – Oh SNAP!: Changes to SNAP Benefits

The SNAP (Supplemental Assistance Nutrition Program) program is changing. At the end of 2018 residents of Jackson who receive the snap benefits are being required to work, volunteer, or be part of a job training program 20 hours per week in order to receive their benefits.

The March forum will be a panel with members of a variety of agencies (DHHS, United Way, Southwestern Michigan Works) there to speak about how things are changing, and how a person makes sure that they continue to qualify for SNAP benefits.

The JXN Community Forums are free and open programs to facilitate dialogue about challenging issues of our day. The forums are co-sponsored by The League of Women Voters and the Jackson District Library.
