Escape of John White at Watkins Lake

Join local historian Laurie Perkins on April 11 at 2 PM at the Brooklyn Branch for a presentation on the creation of new exhibit presented by the Michigan History Center.

About the exhibit: This exhibit at Walker Tavern Historic Site will center on pre-Civil War Lenawee County and feature the lives of Native Peoples and African Americans living around the tavern site. Included in the exhibit will be information on the attempted escape of African American John White from slavery. Visitors will learn how local Jackson County resident Royal Watkins and Lenawee County abolitionist Laura Haviland aided in that escape.

Storytime at the Mann House

Stop by the Mann House in Concord to hear local historian Laurie Perkins read The Yellow House Mystery. Kids can play detective to solve the mystery of the missing diamond ring and then walk to the Concord Branch to put their name in a prize drawing.
