Storyfest Showcase

Celebrate the 35th Annual Storyfest with an evening of storytelling featuring Jenifer Strauss and Adam Mellema at the Jackson Symphony Orchestra’s Weatherwax Hall on November 4 at 7 PM.

This event is free and open to the public.

About the Storytellers:

Adam Mellema dances, sings, and uses an exuberant style all his own to play every character in his stories – every man, woman, and paperweight.

Jenifer Strauss is dynamic and thought-provoking, engaging and educational, heart-warming and humorous. She offers a unique brand of energy-injected and interactive live performances.

Storyfest Showcase

The Jackson Storyfest 2021 showcase features storytelling in all its forms, with performances by Jackson School of the Arts dance troupe, poetry and music duo Lonnie & Clyde, Center Stage Jackson, as well as storytellers Satori Shakoor and Tre Howl.

This event will be held at Weatherwax Hall in the Jackson Symphony Orchestra building and is free, however registration is required.

World Music Day Celebration

The Jackson District Library and the Jackson Symphony Orchestra are virtually celebrating World Music Day (Fete de la Musique) on June 21 at 6 PM.

An evening performance by Ara Topouzian Trio will bring the rhythmic sounds and stories of the Middle East to Jackson! Topouzian is a nationally recognized Armenian American, who mesmerizes audiences with the unique sound of the kanun, a 76-stringed Middle Eastern laptop harp.

You can watch this event live on Zoom or JDL’s Facebook page. To join on Zoom, click here. A recording will be also available afterwards until July 5 on JDL’s Facebook page.

This project is funded in part by Michigan Humanities, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Make Music with JDL and the JSO

Make your own musical instrument during this special program – a partnership between Jackson District Library and the Jackson Symphony Orchestra. As part of the JSO’s “70 Random Acts of Kindness” celebrating their 70th Anniversary, teachers from the Community Music School will help facilitate your creation.
