The Art and Voice of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This event honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s powerful voice while highlight the role that art can play in social transformation. Patrons are invited to create a piece of art in any medium inspired by one of the prompts from Dr. King’s sermons and speeches, and send a photo of their piece to community@myjdl.com.

Submissions dates are December 15 to January 1. The piece selected as the winner will be on display and all entries will be featured on JDL’s Facebook page.

Teen Discord Hangout

The Jackson District Library now has a teen Discord Server for Jackson County teens ages 13-18.
This is a space for teens to meet new friends and connect on topics like anime, art, books, gaming, and graphic novels with access to library resources on mental health, self-care and more.
Hangouts will take place Thursdays from 3-7 PM and teens can drop in at any point and stay as long as they like. We’ll also have bonus programs announced on Discord.

Virtual Art Gallery

All ages are invited to submit an original piece of art for our virtual art gallery!

Submissions are accepted beginning January 1, and the gallery will be available for viewing beginning February 22. To learn more and submit your work, click here.

Live-Ability is an inclusive and accessible program for adults with all abilities. The program will differ each week.

Make Your Mark: Community Art

This fall, we will have a large paint-by-the-numbers that will be chosen and painted by the community! The finished piece will be displayed in the Carnegie Library.

Here’s how to participate:

October 8-14: Vote for your favorite piece to be painted by stopping by the Carnegie Library or vote on Facebook by “liking” your favorite piece.

November 10: Join us in the Carnegie Library to paint!

Sandscapes: Art of the Nazca Lines

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with hands-on learning about the Nazca Lines of Peru! The Nazca Lines are mysterious and gigantic drawings made in the sands of the Nazca desert. This fun, sensory art experience will bring them to life as we learn how and why they were made.
